A rare war-date printed broadside, 1p. 4to., announcing the organization of the Loyal Union League in 1863, entitled: "Constitution of the Loyal Union League of Citizen's of the United States of America," New York City, March 14, 1863. This document outlines the resolutions, "adopted at a public meeting of the [Union] League", reading, in small part: "…resolved, that it is the duty of every citizen to unite in all efforts to preserve and perpetuate the Union in accordance with the Constitution…that the conduct of disaffected persons, claiming to be citizens of the United States…should receive the condemnation of every loyal citizen…that the loyal people of New vYork, hereby pledge their fortunes, their influence and their honor, to the support of national authority in every effort…to secure a complete and final suppression of the causeless…insurrection which now desolates our country…that every citizens owes allegiance to the Government, and he who…fails in his duty to uphold the honor of its flag, is an abettor of treason, and should suffer the penalty due to his crime…our name shall be 'THE LOYAL LEAGUE OF UNION CITIZENS'…".
