NIMITZ, Chester (1885-1966) was a fleet admiral of the United States Navy. He played a major role in the naval history of World War II as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CinCPac), for U.S. naval forces and Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas (CinCPOA), for U.S. and Allied air, land, and sea forces during World War II. Autograph Letter Signed “C.W. Nimitz” 2pp., June 5, 1960, on his personal stationary, VG. In part he writes, “I have just read your piece ... I am concerned about the readiness and willingness of our citizens to face up to the grim possibility - and probability that only a clash of armies will settle our disputes with the communists. ... Our general policy should be ‘Hope for the Best and Peace but prepare for the Worst and War’. .....” Comes with a B/W 8” x 10” of Nimitz, FDR and others.
