Although not the rarest George Washington button variety, this 1-5/16” diameter brass button has always been the collectors' favorite. It is an especially difficult variety to find in this condition, with an unblemished flat planchet surface and pleasing light gold/brass patina, deep strike. The fancy French script “GW” Monogram shows deep, sharp, unbroken lines. The narrow channel that encircles the monogram is nicely inset with “Long Live The President” and finishes with the Christian cross. Each of thelinked oval stipples have abbreviations for each of the 13 states, all of which are sharp inpressions. Heritage recently achieved $5975 on a similiar button in lesser condition.
