Rare pass to attend ceremony at the White House to celebrate the release of the 52 American Hostages held in Iran. The card measures 2 ½" x 4". On the reverse it reads "Please enter via the Southwest Gate". On January 20, 1981, Iran released 52 Americans who had been held hostage for 444 days, minutes after the presidency had passed from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan. The hostages were placed on a plane in Tehran as Reagan delivered his inaugural address. On January 27, 1981 there had been planned a large lavish ceremony at the White House. But, instead it was a more subdued ceremony with the President Reagan making a thoughtful and sincere speech. All the former hostages attended the ceremony. This is the first such pass we have encountered, and difficult to estimate. A great opportunity to acquire a true piece of history for the Cold War era.
