A rare engraved multicolor lithograph of the Erie Canal, New York, lock system schematics draw by Confederate General William Edmond "Grumble" Jones (1824-1864) while a cadet at West Point and as a student in Professor Daniel H. Mahan's engineering class, accomplished ca. 1845, approximately 31 1/2" x 22 1/2", finely engraved title, reads: Plan Sections and Elevations of a CANAL LOCK Drawn under the direction of D. H. Mahan Prof. Eng's. By W. E. Jones Cadet U. S. M. A." Including the plans and sections is a drawing of the "elevation of tail of lock". Signed in engraving by Professor Mahan and his acting assistant professor of engineering Edward Bissell Hunt. Printed by an anonymous source with some soiling, spotting and margin loss, else
