WISE, Henry Alexander (1806-1876) was an American lawyer and politician from Virginia. He was a U.S. Representative and Governor of Virginia, and US Minister to Brazil. During the American Civil War, he was a general in the Confederate States Army. War-date Autograph Letter Signed “Henry A. Wise” 1pp. octavo, June 9, 1861, Richmond, Virginia, addressed to Surgeon Pallen, and reads in part: “...If you will write to and induce any Missourians to come to me at the Kanawha Valley in Virginia I will organize and receive them at once by Corps in to my Brigade....” Fine condition.
