A good war-date Confederate soldier's letter, 2pp. 4to., written by Pvt. Green D. Redwine, Co. F, 7th North Carolina [later a lieutenant in the 42nd N. C.], "Camp Berquyn, Bogue Island, N. C. Sept. 24, 1861", in part: "…we have had a great deal of sickness in this regiment since we have been here though I think the health of regiment is improving…we are stationed within 200 yards of the Atlantic Ocean. There are Yankee ships in site of us all most all of the time. We have been expecting an attack ever since we have been here…we have a beautiful view here. We can see out on the ocean as far as our eyes can behold. Also we can see the flag of Ft. Macon from here…we are insight of Moorhead City and Carolina City…Reid said you talked of coming down soon…when you come bring a good woolen over colored shirts for myself and Madison. I want the knit shirts all wool of a mist color if you can get them…G. D. Redwine." Light toning, weakness at the folds repaired by archival tape, else VG.
