War-date Confederate broadside “GEN’L ORDERS No. 22” issued by Major General Samuel Jones, 1pp. 7-1/2”x5”, Head Quarters, Department of West Virginia, Dublin, April 24, 1863, and reads “To prevent misapprehension on the part of Officers or Citizens in this Department, it is hereby announced that the Proclamation of Martial Law, contained in Gen’l Orders, No. 18 A and J.G.O. series of 1862, being no longer in force there are now no orders interfering with the jurisdiction of the [military crossed out and civil written above] Authorities...” Very good condition. General Samuel Jones (1819-1887) was a major general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. At the midpoint of the war, he commanded the Department of Western Virginia, defending the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad and the vital salt mines. Later he commanded the district of South Carolina.
