WATTS, Thomas Hill (1819-1892) was the 18th Governor of the U.S. state of Alabama from 1863 to 1865, during the Civil War. War-date Document Signed “T.H. Watts” as Governor, 1pp. quarto, Executive Department of Alabama, Montgomery, May 20, 1864, with official seal, also signed “P.H. Brittan” Secretary of State, and reads in part: “...Col. Tho. B. Cooper of Cherokee Co. Ala. is representing the poor families of soldiers...He is endeavoring to procure corn...I request all Q Masters & Rail Road Presdients & agents to give facilities to Col Cooper in this matter, as the object is to feed the wives & children of our soldiers, many of whom have been reduced to want by the ravages of the enemy...” Fine condition.
