DEKAY, Drake (1836-1886), aide-de-camp to General Joseph K.F. Mansfield, was commissioned 1st Lieutenant 14th Infantry on May 14, 1861. By 1864, he had received promotions to captain, major and lieutenant colonel for gallant and meritorious service at the battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania. Partly-printed Document Signed “Drake De Kay” 1pp. oblong octavo, June 23, 1861, permitting Mr. Schmidt to work “over the bridges and within the lines.” Very good condition.
