K, 14th New York State Vols., Harrison's Landing, Va., July 20, 1862, reading, in part: "…it is probable that the last call for troops will bring many now at home…[if] there is a probability of being drafted the by all means volunteer as drafted troops will be the butt end of the army…there is a most better feeling existing against those that would…submit to be drafted…in the box put a small bottle of good brandy. We can get nothing of the kind here…we have just got word that our tents have arrived…all quiet along the lines…I wrote to [Pvt. William E.] Spencer [WIA & POW Gaines Mill, Va., 6/27/62-died of wounds at Savage Station, Va., 7/18/62]…endeavoring to correct an erroneous idea that he has…[while] in the hands of the Rebels render[s] any aid or even communicate with them. Seymour a letter to a man in Richmond requesting that it be forwarded to that city…the letter…wished he would try…send some faithful man to hunt for his boy. Now what can the man be thinking..to write with [such] an idea…Robert A. Hubbel…". Light soiling, else VG
