Large group of thirty (30) post war-date documents and letters, pertaining to the 35th Iowa, mostly regarding pensions, includes: Autograph Letter Signed by Lieutenant Whiting Wetherell, Co. H , 35th Iowa Infantry, who served from August 1862 through August 1865, 2pp. octavo, July 8, 1884, addressed to the Adjutant General of the United States, and reads “I respectfully ask that my military record be amende to conform to Act of Congress of June 3rd 1884, in order that I may receive the pay to which I am entitled: The facts are as follows August 4th 1862 I enlisted as a private in Co ‘H’ 35th Iowa Vol. Infantry, some time in Dec. following I was made 1st Sergeant and June 14th 1863, was ordered by Col. S.G. Hill, commanding the Regiment, to act as 1st Lieut until further orders. I acted in that capacity until Nov. 24th 1863 when I was mustered as a 1st Lieutent. My commission dates from July 24th 1863, was unable to muster from the fact that there was at the time no mustering officer attached to the Division. & part of the time we were on active service. During this period Geo. K. Spencer, 1st Lieut of the co. acted as Captain & was in Command of the Company. & who is now 1st Lieut. 19th U.S. Infty...” Fine condition...plus ; Autograph Letter Signed by Whiting Wetherell, to the Editor of the National Tribune, in which he states “In a late number of the National Tribue, I noticed a statement that Maj Genera A.J. Smith’s Corps (16th) did not make any assault on either day of the fight at Nashville, Tenn.” and is followed by several quotes of various generals from their battle reports contesting the error. Fine condition...plus; Rare “Pioneer Express Company” receipt, June 23, 1865, issued from Selma, to Anna Wetherrell in Lisbon, Iowa, containing $250. Very good...plus; Much more. All very good to fine condition.
