A great United States Congressman's letter, 1p. 8vo., written by Massachusetts Representative James Buffington (1817-1875), House of Representatives, Washington, Jan. 5, 1862, addressed to the Fall River, Mass. collector of customs Charles Almy, Esq., reading, in part: "I have the honor to enclose to you a letter from Sec. of [Treasury Salmon P.] Chase in relation to your application. I trust it will be satisfactory. Local news is somewhat startling…this morning we hear of traitors in high positions. Hill has let loose. Lookout for squalls…you will see what I refer too in the papers before this reaches you…J. Buffington." Worthy of further research. VG
