A good war-date Union artilleryman's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Henry D. Isbell, Battery A, 1st Ohio Light Artillery [MWIA Chickamauga, Ga., 9/19/64; DOW 10/16/64 buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery], New Parks Barracks, Louisville, KY, Sept. 6, 1862, in part: "We…moved our quarters…to some new barracks which we find much better than the old ones…and are out in the country…about two hundred more Arty. men came…from Cleveland…which makes three hundred in all…[Raider John Hunt] Morgan took a place called Brandon…about twenty five miles south of here on the rail road so our communications with the boys is cut off for the present…there is a great deal of excitement here. Morgan is reported within twenty miles of here and every one thinks he will take the place within a week. I hope he will. It is full of secesh…we drill three times a day. My squad is the best in the field and in a week more we shall stump the world…when is that dwarf wedding coming off. I should like to be around about that time…Henry D. Isbell." VG
