War-date Union officer’s Autograph Document Signed “G.W. Batchelder” Lieut and Adjt. 1st Massachusetts Cavalry, Head Quaters, Hilton Head, South Carolina, July 7, 1862, being a circular, it reads “The Major Commanding directs that Commanders of Companies have their men marched to the beach for bathing, at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Any Sergeant can take down a squad for the same purpose on other days not later than 9 a.m. and not before 5 p.m....” Fine condition.
