Lot of 10 consecutive Civil War-era issues of the New York Tribune, famed editor Horace Greeley’s newspaper. The issues run from January 5-15, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation has been issued a few days earlier so you will find much post-proclamation news (and sermons, one by Rev. Henry Ward Beecher) and opinion (including some from the southern press). One issue contains a front page line map of “The Field of Operations in Kentucky and Tennessee” (illustrated with this lot). These issues carry reports from the war fronts (along with accounts of the same battles from rebel publications) at (Murfreesboro) as well as in Arkansas, Mississippi (Vicksburg), Missouri and North and South Carolina. Also, obituary and funeral obsequies for Rev. Lyman Beecher and an account of the loss of the Monitor. There is a 3-column (small type) report of a speech of Confederate President Jefferson Davis on the conduct of the war. Very historical content throughout these issues, which have been removed from a volume. Expect some loose pages, but content intact.
