Pair of clipped signatures of : WELLES, Gideon (1802-1878) was the United States Secretary of the Navy from 1861 to 1869, a cabinet post he was given after supporting Lincoln in the 1860 election. “GWelles” Mounted. Else fine....plus; BUTLER, Benjamin (1818-1893) was a major general of the Union Army, politician, lawyer and businessman from Massachusetts. “Benj F. Butler” removed from letter. Very good condition.
