A great war-date Union battle of the Crater related document, 1p. 4to., issued by the "Lt. Col. Comdg.", Head Qrs., 2nd Brig. 2nd Div. 10 A. C., "n. Petersburg, Va., July 29, 1864, to Captain Charles A. Moore Co. G, 47th New York Vols., reading, in part: "The Lt. Col. comdg. directs that you immediately strengthen your "Bombproof" by throwing at least two feet of dirt on the top thereof. The dirt that is now being thrown out of the mine can be used for the purpose. The Col. also desires…to suggest to you…that as there is every probability of the ground in your immediate vicinity becoming in a short time a rather "hot place" it will be to your own advantage to complete this work at once. Very respectfully-Captain-your ob'dt. servant, Frank D. Barnum Lt. & a. a. a. Genl." Near fine.
