Great war-date Union Cavalryman's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Bugler Josephus W. Pell, 12th Kentucky Cavalry, 'Camp near Paris, KY., April 9, 1864", reading, in part: …I have been writing a history for our Co. & will have it printed. It will cost $1.50 look out for it…I want you to have it put in a frame. We have drawn our guns they are Ballard rifle[s]…we have Capt. S. D. Dial, 1st Lieut. Wm. Wallace, 2nd Lieut. Loyd all of Co. K. I am going into town…to git my photograph taken…Lieut. Hudson pade me $5 that Pap left at Lexington for him…Dr. Littlepage sends his respects…I am tending to Charley the best I can he looks a good deal better…Josephus W. Pell." VG
