A huge grouping of thirty (31) Civil War military related postal transmittal covers. Included in the group are numerous "Soldier Letter" covers endorsed by officers and congressman. Highlights include (2) Brigadier General ANSON G. MCCOOK (1835-1917) as colonel 2nd Ohio Vols.; (2) Chaplain Erastus A. Strong 3rd Ohio Vols.; (1) Chaplain T. Spencer Harrison 126th New York Vols. who won fame helping repel Pickets Charge at Gettysburg; (1) Major David A. Lecky 100th (Roundheads) Penn. Vols.; (1) Chaplain Edward C. Ambler 67th Penn. Vols.; one each as member of congress New York's Charles H. Van Wyck; Massachusetts S. C. Pomeroy and another from Massachusetts congressman D. Woods[?] Other highlights include (2) pre-printed covers that are printed: "Head Quarters, Twelfth Regiment Me. Volunteers, New England Division", and "Pay Dept. U. S. Army, Baltimore, MD." while there are covers addressed to troopers in the 78th Penn. Vols., 47th New York Vols., Capt. William H. Mickle as Ordnance officer in the 11th Army Artillery Corps (while serving with the 134th New York Vols. he was wounded at the battle of GETTYSBURG during the severe fighting north of the town on the first day), 5th United State Artillery and "Head Quarters U. S. Signal Corps, New Bern, N. C." along with one possible Confederate postmaster's provisional cover canceled "Raleigh, N. C., July 6, 1861." Most covers retain their original stamps with a few missing stamps. Overall expected condition wear with some toning, and other minor faults.
