A good pair of printed 1880's Grand Army of the Republic booklets including an 1883 printing of the "Rules and Regulations and By-Laws of Gen. Lyon Posy, No. 266, Department of New York…adopted Dec. 27th, 1882." Blue-gray paper wraps, approximately 4" x 5 3/4", 32pp., printed by George O. Townsend, Middletown, N. Y. Also "War Relics Charity Fair, Admiral Foote Post, No. 17, G. A. R., Dec. 14-20, 1887." Light blue paper wraps, approximately 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" with portrait of Admiral Foote engraved upon the front cover, 52pp., printed by Rice, Lee & Co., New Haven, Connecticut, 1887. This booklet will make the modern reader wish that they could have attended the "Charity Fair." The post, members of the post and others loaned their prized war relics to the fair. There were well over three hundred items on exhibit at the fair. A quick glance of the Items on display include Admiral Foote's epaulettes, a bowie knife found at New Bern, N. C. by a member of the 10th Conn. Vols., a canteen from the 1st Mississippi Rifles that was captured at Port Hudson by a member of the 24th Conn. Vols., a pike captured at James Island, S. C. following the battle of Secessionville while even a cohorn mortar captured at Island No. 10, were just a few of the items on exhibit at the fair.
