O’CONNOR, William Douglas (1832-1889) close friend of Walt Whitman. Autograph Letter Signed, 4pp. octavo, December 19, 1885, to E.C. Stedman, and reads in part: “...Mrs. Pott of London, a woman in every way adorable as a spirt and a scholar, published a couple of years ago one of Bacon’s note books, betweena note from Metcalf regretting to be obliged to decline an article of such great value...Then I sent it to the Manhattan, where it was accepted. Forman writing me a glowing letter of appreciation...But last mont, out comes a posthumous book of ‘Studies’ by R.S. W and among them, carefully revised by his own hand for perpetuation in a volume, was this atrocious libel!...” Much more. About very good condition.
