Just days before US President John F Kennedy was assassinated, the pipes and drums of Scotland's Black Watch regiment performed on the White House lawn. It was such a special memory for his widow Jackie that she invited nine members of the band to take part in his state funeral procession through Washington DC. The charity performance on the White House lawn was the highlight of a three-month tour of the United States by the military band of the Black Watch. This rare program is from that day, only nine days before the President's assassination. The piece measures 6 ½" x 9 ½, opens listing the days events, folded at center, else fine. This rare program comes from the estate of James Nelson, White House Florist. Nelson worked at the White House from the Eisenhower administration through the Reagan years. His son recently brought in several large boxes of material owned by Nelson to a collectables show in Ohio (Where our consignor was able to obtain this piece) and sold material to several collectors and dealers. This piece being one of the more significant artifacts from the Kennedy years. We have never seen another example come to auction. A great opportunity to acquire a rare JFK related piece.
