A reward letter written to the sheriff of San Marcos, Texas, written by a creation M. E. Miller, Belton, Bell Co., Texas, Nov. 13, 1868, reading, in part: "On the 22nd of Oct. 1868 Messrs Tabor & Luce of Byron, Texas shipped…the following described goods by a man who signed his name G. W. Bantley…no doubt that the man has signed a fictitious name and has stolen the goods…if there is any one in your county of a suspicious character selling such things please look after him for me I will give $200 for the recovery of my goods which amounts to about $2000. Please investigate the matter throughout your county & oblige…M. E. Miller." The original stamped transmittal cover is included.
