An unusual stereoview, ca. 1870, from the "Popular Series" showing an overly dapper black man getting his shoes shined by a little white boy. The man cockily holds his walking stick while smoking a cigar. Announcements on the broadsides plastered to the wall behind them, which hides a harbor full of ships, read: "Adelphi…Tonight the White Slave…Octoroon…Farce…No Slavery…Freedom…Great Meeting NEGRO Emancipation…Poor Slaves…". Negligible stains on mount, not affecting the albumens, else VG.
