Very UNIQUE hinged doorknocker, bronze, 4-1/2’ x 2-3/4”, shows Wilberforce seated on a chair. On the backplate is Wilberforce House in Hull, England. Beneath that is a depiction of a slave with chained hands and feet, and the words " Love as Brethren " and beneath that is the coat of arms for the city of Hull. nd, c1900, VG.William Wilberforce, a late eighteenth century abolitionist and social reformer, was the prime motivator behind the abolition of the slave trade in the United Kingdom in 1807. ... plus, book, “The Anti-Slavery Crusade”, Jesse Macy, 1921, New Haven, 245pp., fine.Illustrated with several of the early American abolitioinists.
