Small group of war-date letters pertaining to William Braznell, 165th New York Regiment, who was captured in teh Red River Expedition and imprisoned at Camp Ford, where he would die on October 16, 1864, includes: Autograph Letter Signed by William Braznell, 2pp. quarto, Tyler, Texas, July 6, 1864, and reads in part: “...I am a prisoner in Texas and have been for 3 months. I was took on the second days fight at Pleasant Hill but I soon will be exchanged and as soon as I get back to our lines I will write to you and send you some money...” Very good...plus; War-date Autograph Document Signed by Colonel H.D. Hull, 2nd Dureyees Zouaves, September 1, 1862, in part: “...Private Wm. Braznell was duly mustered into the United States service on the 24th Sept 1862 & is now a private in the 2nd Duryee Zouaves....” Very good...plus ; War-date ALS by Sgt. John Fleming,165th New York, Near Harpers Ferry, Virginia, August 9, 1864, to the wife of William Braznell and reads in part: “...Your letter fo the 11th ult inquiring about Wm. Braznell just received...He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Sabine Cross Roads, April 8th and is now I believe confined at Tyler, Texas with about thirty others of the regt...” Very good condition...plus; ALS by the wife of William Braznell, 1pp. octavo, New York, February 18, 1865, and reads: “having wrote to you once before concerning my husband William Braznell, and I received an answer that he was taken prisoner in April last and I have not heard anything about him since...I thought I would write you once more to see if he is dead or alive...” Very good condition...plus; Post war widow payment document for Mrs. Braznell. Very good condition. A nice group.
