War-date Union Document “Union Defense Committee of the Citizens of New York” 1pp. octavo, May 12, 1861, and reads in part: “...The Government of the United States in order to maintain the just authority of the Constitution, which is defied by armed bodies of men who have attacked the flag, has been suddenly compelled, at a time when treason has emptied the Treasury seized the public arms and ammunition...you are therefore earnestly requested, if not already done, to send without delay such sum as in the present emergency you feel called upon and are willing to contribute...” Very good condition.
