PORTER, Andrew (1820-1872) was an American army officer who was a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was an important staff officer under George B. McClellan during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign, serving as the Provost Marshal of the Army of the Potomac . War-date Autograph Document Signed “A. Porter Brig Gen. Provost Marshal” 1pp. quarto, Washington, February 2, 1862, and lists “Spies to be tried by U.S. Court” and names them “Mrs O’Dwyer, Mary Sullivan, Hannah O’Dwyer (3 small children)...” Fine condition.
