A great war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written, on pre-printed Union camp scene stationery, by Artificer Arthur W. Currier, Co. I, 1st Michigan Mechanics and Engineers, Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 28, 1862, in part: "…I have not heard from anyone from the Rapids in over two months…I came very near going yesterday to have my picture taken…but as it rained all day I did not go. Yesterday our army was fighting all day…the report is that they captured two brigades and 500 cavalry and went into Mumfords burrow [Murfreesboro]. [I] hope it is so. I have looked for a letter for three or four days…but as the railroad has been cut off I have not got any…last night we has some nice singing and…I wished that I had a mandolin to play on. Every time I hear any music I feel as if I could take a board and play on [it]. I miss the mandolin…A. W. Currier….". Also included are two miscellaneous postwar receipts. VG.
