A good pair of signed Union general items for brevet Major General William H. Morris (1826-1900) who graduated USMA 1860 and breveted brigadier and major general during the Civil War. Active during Grant's Overland campaign he was severely wounded at the battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia. Later he was a member of New York's state constitutional convention, author of a military tactics manual and inventory of a repeating carbine. The war-date signature reads, in full: "…Head Qrs. Peck's Div., Aug. 8, 1862, Wm. H. Morris, a. a. g." The CDV is housed in its original CDV album page and is signed: "Wm. H. Morris, Putnam Co., New York." Both near fine.
