Good war-date manuscript, 1p. 4to., Union military document, signed by Brevet Brigadier General JAMES C. BRISCOE (1835-1869), as a. a. a. g. to Major General Birney, "Head Qrs. 1st Division, 3d Corps, June 1, 1863," being General Orders No. 53 on parade drills and brigade inspections. Briscoe won his brigadier general's rank for gallantry shown during the breakthrough of the Confederate lines at Fort Gregg on April 2, 1865. This action helped lift the Siege of Petersburg and led to the end of the Civil War. Fine.
