Union surgeon’s Autograph Letter Signed, 3pp. octavo, On Board White Rose, November 3, 1865, and reads in part: “...I am on my way to New Orleans...I expect we are elected to remain in this country this winter...Lewis Butler is dead...the companies of the 46 Ill are camped and this told me...They tried to send his body home but they would not let the detail of men proceed with it and he was burned at New Orleans. This will be sad news to his parents...” Fine condition.
