Pair of war-date Union soldier Autograph Letters, one signed “Alfred” at Head Quarters 6th Corps, March 28, 1865, 4pp. octavo, and reads in part: “...The army is all in motion or all packing up & the army of the James is moving over here to the left...we may go tonight or tomorrow...a rumor says that 6th & 5th are going to North Carolina. General Sherman’s in City Point today with Grant and Sheridan. Grant is packing up his HdQrs & coming on here to the left. I hear that Gen. Hancock has got twenty five thousand men & is moving on to the north of Richmond & will strike them...Sherman’s army is not here but he came on by water to consult with Grant...” The other July 10, 1865, Camp Halls Hill, Virginia, 2pp., in small part: “...We have received an order mustering out all the volunteers in our Corp. We are all making out our muster out rolls, and our Regt will be ready to be mustered out by Wednesday...” Fine condition.
