A very rare 1/6 plate tintype of General Thomas J. Jackson presented in an embossed paper frame which in turn in enclosed in a two-side frame. The verso of the paper mat has the following “Stonewall Jackson, Photographed by C. V. Hannist” (sp?). Perhaps this is referring to Vannerson who is noted for the CDV version. Very sharp and good contrast. The last photograph of Stonewall Jackson dates from late April 1863 and is often called the "Chancellorsville photograph." According to VMI, Jackson was headquartered near what would soon become his last battlefield - Chancellorsville - when a photographer from the Richmond studio of Minnis and Crowell convinced him to pose for a portrait. Jackson was killed less than two weeks later.
