Broadside titled, “AT A MEETING OF MERCHANTS AND CITIZENS GENERALLY, HELD (IN PURSUANCE OF A PUBLIC NOTICE) AT THE EXCHANGE...FOR THE PURPOSE OF TESTIFYING THEIR RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF THE LATE WILLIAM GASTON...”, 8-1/2” x 11”, Np, but possibly Savannah,, 1837, VG. A public memorial and resolution, expressing grief at the death of a prominent local-born merchant which occurred some distance from his home. In his memory, the town also established a tomb for travelling strangers, so that "the strangers' friend will not go unwept."
