The first is a letter, datelined Sumter C.H. SC., June 25th, 1861, written by P.P. Gaillard to Governor Pickens seeking to join his regiment, the Palmetto Guard, which is now at Camp Beauregard, Bull Run, Virginia. The Govenor approves. ... plus, The second piece are manuscript copies of orders that Gaillard received from the Palmetto Guard indicating that he needed the Governor’s approval to proceed. Governor Pickens dockets the reverse of this document. Both fine.
