A nice Alabama Confederate officer’s letter written by “John L. Kunzie”, datelined Camp 4th Ala Regt. near Gordonsville, VA., May 1st, 1864, 2pp., VG. The letter is written on the back of a Confederate payroll form, in the typical “brown bag” Confederate paper. In part, “On last Friday General Longstreet’s Corps was reviewed by Uncle Bob Lee near Gordonsville. Its troops was proud to see him & they cheered him loud & long. Great many ladies present. There is a great many rumors afloat as to what our corps will do. It is said that Longstreet is here to march Generals Burnsides & Butler in the peninsular soon. ... They say that he has no idea of fighting Lee. Such is not my belief. I am sorry to learn that Johnston has been dissatisfied. But it is nothing more than I expected. ...”
