War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by James Reed, 4pp. octavo, Camp near Nashville, Tennessee, December 21, 1862, and reads in part: “...We have to drill every day except Sabbath. We have had two little fights since we came here. In the first the 97 lost one man, in the second the 57 Indiana lost one but we drove them back two miles. Some may think that I ought to staid home but I followed my dictates of conscience, and I think done my duty. Rolston is in the hospital yet. T. Carr is dead. He died on the 8th. Cunningham is dead, he died in Lebanon...” Very good condition.
