KEYES, Erasmus (1810-1895) was a businessman, banker, and military general, noted for leading the IV Corps of the Union Army of the Potomac during the first half of the American Civil War. War-date Union officer Autograph Letter Signed by General Keyes and Captain Anderson Faith, 5th Pennsylvania Cav., 1pp. quarto, Yorktown, Virginia, October 29, 1862, being a disability document issued by Surgeon Cadwallader and reads in part: “...Captain Leopold Rosenthal...is suffering from a dislocation of the head of the fibula of the left leg injury received in the action at Williamsburg on the 9th of Sept. 1862, he is also afflicted with a constant hacking cough the effect of injury to the right lung recd at the same time...” Fine condition. Captain Leopold Rosenthal would later die from disease.
