Autograph Letter Signed by Theodore Cooper, Asst. Engineer, U.S. Navy, 4p. octavo, written on the ship "Chocura” Feb. 4, 1863, off Wilmington, North Carolina, and reads in part: "...We are still doing the quiet and somewhat tedious duty of blockading. Have a chase once in a while, but have taken but one prize, which we sent North a few days ago. Some refugees (so claimed) were picked up in a boat the other day. They claimed to be runaway conscripts & gave information of things going on but little faith is put them, as by a coincidence, two of them were recognized by person on the boat, as professional gamblers, one from Richmond the other from New Orleans. They were handed over to the commodore. The Columbia one of the boats on blockade about 10 miles above here, was run ashore (somehow) and was taken possession of by the rebs, but they were shelled off by another boat, & the boat blown up. Most of the crew were captured, some 30 however go off..." VG.
