A good Union soldier’s four page letter written by “Charles H. Finger”, who enlisted 8/11/1862 into G Compnay, NY 126th Infantry, was POW 9/15/1862 and paroled, wounded 5/10/1864, and mustered out 6/25/1865 at Annapolis. Datelined, Union Hills Va, Jan. 23, 1863 to Friend Norton. In part, “I had not seen old Stonewall since we got back in the field. I don’t care much about seeing him. He is a hard old knot. He can slip through an augar hole. Our troops will surround him and first they know he will have them surrounded and take them prisoners. he is just as slippery as that. ...”
