A good Union four page letter written by “Peter Sinclair” who enlisted 9/2/1863 into IL 101st infantry and mustered out 6/7/1865. the letter is datelined Savannah Georgia, January 14, 1865. In part, “Our Grand Reviews have been held in the streets of this beautiful city. Sherman received each Corps separately, taking a day to each. ... Kilpatrick’s Cavalry was reviewed yesterday . To a civilian who had never seen such things, it was no doubt a grand sight, but we could not help noticing the sad lack of disciplin. Many officers failed to salute Sherman as they passed him ... A few days ago two or three of us went downtown ... we met Sherman and one of tyhe finest looking men I ever saw. We stepped aside and saluted him as he passed ... After a thousand inquiries , we found out it was no less a personage than Secretary Staton. ...” Sinclair notes at the top of the letter “I send this envelope because it is Rebel and may be a curiosity.” The necessity brown cover is included.
