BLAIR, Montgomery (1813-1883), the son of Francis Preston Blair, elder brother of Francis Preston Blair, Jr. and cousin of B. Gratz Brown, was a politician and lawyer from Maryland. He served in the Lincoln administration cabinet as Postmaster-General from 1861 to 1864, during the Civil War. Autograph Letter Signed “M. Blair” 1pp. oblong octavo, December 27, 1868, Washington, D.C., addressed to Mr. Morrison, and reads: “...You have omitted to furnish me 5th Wallan. I have the 6th but not the 5th. By the way I have a surplus copy of O.Howard, would you exchange 5th for it?” Fine condition.
