Cabinet Card, circa 1888. 4.25" x 6.5". A sepia toned bust portrait of Private Schmid signed and dated on verso: "F.L. Schmid, July 1888, Hempstead Tex." Schmid died just five years later in 1893 at age twenty-six from gunshot wounds. Schmid was a Company "D" Texas Ranger and served for seven years. Photograph by John A. Scholten of St. Louis and backstamped with his seal and business address. A previous collector has written his name on the verso in modern ink.
