Group of four TLS’s written by author Robert Bruce to Captain Luther North. Luther North and Frank North were in command of the Pawnee Scouts in Nebraska from 1863-1877. The Pawnee Scouts were a unique U.S. Army battalion of about a hundred Pawnees scouts and soldiers, led by Pawnee and White officers, who during the height of the Plains Indian wars and earned the respect of prominent generals in the West for protecting settlements, the railroads, and Indian camps.All Typed Letters Signed “R. Bruce” and attempt to clarify facts in Bruce’s upcoming book, The Fighting Norths and Pawnee Scouts. To include; October 14, 1928, 1pp., Questions regarding July 1864, attempting to distiguish between Luther and his brother, Major Frank. ... plus, November 12, 1928, 1pp., in part “ He wants me to publish a work on Wild Bill Hickok ... By the way I spent last Friday evening with Mrs. Custer .., ...plus, May 23, 1931, 1pp., in part, “I would go a long way to let Big Hawk Cheif see this story-and also his long name in print.” (ie: his Pawnee name was "Kootahwecootsoolelehoolashar").... plus April 23, 1932, 1pp., more clarification, “in part, the notes about the Pawnee carrying the RR men over on their backs...”
