Three war-date Union soldier Autograph Letters Signed by William Jackman, 14th Maine Infantry, Killed in Action at Winchester 9/9/1864, reads in part: “...[2/21/1862 On Board Ship North America] we are still on the mighty deep, somwheres near the Bahamas...Direct your letters as follows:” 14th Maine Regiment Co. I New England Division...[7/10/1863 Port Hudson] Port Hudson surrendered on the 8th. Now that Vicksburg and Port Hudson has surrendered I think that it is the beginning of the end of the war, at any rate the fighting is about done up out this way. There is only a few scattring rebels about here now. I think it will be hard to find them. I long to hear from Old Hooker if he has success...” And another letter about him having an argument with his captain in front of the colonel and being ordered under arrest, but this was revoked by the general. Very good condition.
