EVERETT, Edward (1794-1865) was an American politician from Massachusetts. Everett, a Whig, served as U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, the 15th Governor of Massachusetts, Minister to Great Britain, and United States Secretary of State. He also taught at Harvard University and served as its president. He is best remembered for his two hour speech at the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetery in 1863 immediately before Abraham Lincoln gave is famous two minute address.War-date Autograph Letter Signed “Edward Everett” 1-1/4pp. octavo, January 6, 1864, addressed to Professor William B.
