A pair of Civilian letters, both written to T. Florian Currier, regarding the Lincoln Emancipation, including, a letter written by WW Swett, NJ, Aug. 30, 1862, 3pp., in part “”I believe Old Abe’s the true ground. Humanity may demand emancipation. Everything else that is good may demand it. But of whom. Of those responsible for slavery. Old Abe may emancipate to save the country but not to gratify his ‘personaleish’. I cannot see that it would add a feather’s weight to our side unless we have reached that desearate point - where we intend to annihilate our enemy ...” ... plus, A civilian letter from J.D. Stevens, Washington DC, on or about Nov. 1, 1862, 7pp., in part, “... while the cause of good government in America all depends on a most prompt and vigorous following up of the Great proclamation. If it is not done, Lincoln will soon find a powerful foe in his rear cooperating with the foe in front-whose aim will be a reconstruction of gov’t and the Dem. party with Slavery and State Rights
