Beautiful badge, 2” x 2”, has six points similar to the Star of David, each point of the star depicting a branch of the military; infantry, cavalry, artillery, engineers, signal corps, and navy. There is a small chip in the enamel paint on the tip of the artillery arm of the star. The center of the star contains a medallion depicting two veterans shaking hands with the words "Hebrew Veterans War With Spain." This pendant is one of the rarest of all American Jewish military badges as only 5,000 Jews served in the US forces during the Span Am War and not more than a few hundred ever belonged to this organization which was formed in 1899 by returning Jewish veterans of the Spanish American War. They only issued this one badge. The Hebrew Veterans of the War with Spain was reorganized in 1920 to the Hebrew Veterans of the Wars of the Republic and later, in 1929 to the Jewish War Veterans of the USA which exists today. The badge and pendant were manufactured by Dieges and Clust, New York.
